Child Bereavement UK’s innovative digital systems have been officially recognised as having global humanitarian impact by a leading tech provider.

Director of Services & Service Transformation, Letizia Perna, and Head of Salesforce & IT, Laura Threadingham, accepted the Genesys Innovators Award in the Humanitarian Impact category on behalf of a Child Bereavement UK at a special ceremony held in Las Vegas earlier this month.

Genesys Cloud is an important part of the systems our bereavement specialists and counsellors use every day. It helps us manage conversations safely, maintain accurate records and provide timely advice, guidance and support to the children, young people, parents and families who turn to us.

People reaching out to Child Bereavement UK will always speak with and receive support from a human being and be guided to resources written by our clinically trained bereavement specialists. However, our work with Genesys Cloud has enabled us to use AI to support many of the administrative tasks that sit behind our services, freeing up our bereavement specialists to spend more time focusing on the people who need them most. It also helps us build a fuller picture of the people we support, ensuring previous conversations and case histories can be accessed quickly, so people don't have to repeatedly revisit painful experiences by telling their story again.

This work forms part of our ambitious plans to rethink how bereavement support is delivered, ensuring care is accessible to everyone who needs it. And at the heart of every decision we make, our services are shaped by the experiences and needs of bereaved families. By embracing digital innovation, we can reach more people and provide support in ways that work for them.

Letizia Perna, Director of Services & Service Transformation at Child Bereavement UK, comments,

The Genesys Innovation Award is a thrilling highlight to show how far we have come in the support we offer and how we reach more people.

“We are pleased to have been acknowledged for our pioneering activities in offering grief support to more and more bereaved families in the UK, while integrating the newest and most diverse technologies to be able to deliver our support to yet more bereaved children, young people and grieving parents.

“Our use of innovation and technology is not about removing the human touch from our services; it is about being at the forefront of using what is available in advancements to reach more people who need our support while ensuring that that support is clinically evidenced and compassionate.”

Head of Data & IT, Laura Threadingham comments,

Receiving this award reminds us that innovation and compassion go hand in hand. Every improvement we make ultimately gives our teams more time to focus on what matters most – and that is of course supporting bereaved children, young people and families.

“We feel that this award is a strong reminder to keep boldly finding new and exciting ways to support more grieving families and to adapt to the latest technology, which is available, by using it to assist the compassionate humans on the front line of our services.

“This award is a fantastic recognition of the collaborative work between Child Bereavement UK and Genesys. It celebrates our shared commitment to designing a solution that is genuinely centred on our users' needs. For the organisation, it reinforces our commitment to continually improve the experience we provide.”

We are thankful for this award and the acknowledgement this brings. Our support will always be expert, free, run by real people, and tailored to a person’s individual needs. We will continue to utilise the latest technology to innovatively find ways to reach and make support accessible to more bereaved children, young people and parents or carers grieving a baby or child.
